ABOVE: The grassy gully leading to the notch mid-picture is Mantle Pass. Don't be fooled by the false pass to the right out of the picture. The view from the false pass is good, but it is better from the real pass. This is looking north.
Mantle Pass
I call the rocky point to the left of the picture "The Podium" for obvious reasons. It can be seen from many places in the area, including Crown Basin, and begs to be climbed. To the right of "The Podium" is Mantle Pass. I went up to the false pass to the right only to gaze down on a large talus field on the far side. On a hunch I went up the grassy flower-filled gully pictured above, all of Class 1, and found a gentle sandy slope leading to the lake on the far side. Fine views are had from the pass which leads us to the next picture...
